Plot

In the shadow of a devastating tragedy, a pregnant Jessabelle "Jessie" Laurent makes the heart-wrenching decision to move into her boyfriend's home, ready to nurture a future family. Their dreams crumble when a horrific car accident claims the lives of her beloved and unborn child, leaving Jessie gravely wounded, her mobility confined to a wheelchair. With no other option, she is compelled to reach out to her estranged father, Leon Laurent, and she finds herself returning to the hauntingly familiar landscapes of her Louisiana childhood home. Immersed in the eerie silence of her mother's room, Jessie stumbles upon a hidden trove of videotapes. The magnetic pull of curiosity leads her to press play, unveiling the spectral image of her late pregnant mother, Kate Laurent, engrossed in the mystical art of tarot reading. The tapes hold cryptic messages, ominous warnings of a relentless spirit, territorial and envious, that will not rest until Jessie is expelled from the house. The sinister revelations are interrupted as Leon discovers and destroys the tapes in a fit of fury. As dawn breaks, Jessie, left alone in the house, finds herself drawn to another videotape. The spectral image of her mother reappears, speaking about a mysterious man named Moses who taught her the enigmatic art of card reading. An unseen presence begins to reveal itself, a spectral woman who haunts Jessie relentlessly. When Leon uncovers two additional videotapes and attempts to erase their existence, he meets a grisly fate, consumed by fire in a locked shed. Amid the solemnity of the funeral, Jessie reconnects with her high-school friend, the unhappily married Preston Sanders. Spurred by the unsettling videotapes, Preston decides to aid Jessie in unravelling the tangled mysteries. Who is the spectral woman who haunts Jessie? Will she ever escape the relentless spirit bound to her past? The answers lie in the heart of Louisiana, in the echoes of the videotapes and the chilling whispers of the house that refuses to let her go.
