Plot

In the lively heart of Paris, the carefree spirit of young student Maureen Winston is abruptly shattered when she is kidnapped in broad daylight by a ruthless gang of white slavers. This chilling event transpires during a vacation she was persuaded into by her older sister, Margaret, whose guilt now consumes her as they were supposed to be enjoying the European allure together. The family's desperation mounts when the customary channels of authority and the State Department prove to be of no help, leaving them feeling hopeless and out of options. In a surprising twist, their grandfather proposes an unconventional solution, suggesting they seek assistance from the legendary heroes of pulp fiction like Remo Williams, Mack Bolan, or the enigmatic Jake Speed. The family dismisses this as an old man's delusion until a mysterious note addressed to Margaret surfaces, guiding her to a seedy bar where she finds herself face-to-face with Jake Speed's assistant, Desmond Floyd. Jake arrives, his presence as puzzling as his reputation. With an air of assurance, he reveals the horrifying truth; Maureen is a captive in a fictional African country, in the clutches of Sid, a sadistic British crime lord and white slaver. He further unravels the world of pulp fiction, asserting that the heroes are real, their stories are true, and their adventures are as wild as they sound. Despite the incredulity of the situation, Margaret, driven by her guilt and desperation, agrees to accompany Jake and Desmond on this daring rescue mission. The journey to Africa is fraught with danger and deceit. Margaret finds herself in perilous situations, narrowly escaping being sold into slavery and surviving a near-explosion, all part of Jake's bewildering plan. Doubts creep in, and she begins to question the motives of Jake and Desmond, prompting her to flee. She seeks refuge in an embassy being evacuated due to an escalating rebellion. The consul reveals Jake and Desmond as notorious tricksters who harbor delusions of being pulp fiction heroes. As the plot thickens, it becomes clear that the consul is not as he seems, and Jake, despite his unconventional methods, is indeed the hero he claims to be. Margaret and Jake are captured and taken to Sid's villa, the same place where Margaret's sister resides, held captive. Navigating the tumultuous world of the 1980s, will Jake Speed live up to his pulp fiction reputation and save the day? And can Margaret overcome her guilt and play her part in this dangerous game of rescue and redemption? Unravel the truth in this thrilling blend of reality and fiction, where nothing is as it seems.
