Plot

In the captivating realm of Cinecittà, a colossal movie studio on the outskirts of Rome, the world-renowned director Federico Fellini finds himself the center of attention, his illustrious career under the lens of a Japanese television crew. As Fellini journeys through the echoes of his past, a young actor, Sergio Rubini, steps into the director's shoes, painting a vivid portrait of Fellini's fledgling days in the tumultuous 40's, when he first arrived wide-eyed at Cinecittà to interview a celebrated star. As Fellini navigates the labyrinth of his own life story, he simultaneously embarks on the creation of his latest cinematic masterpiece, an adaptation of Franz Kafka's "Amerika". The worlds of reality and fiction blend seamlessly, and the director’s set becomes a stage for the unexpected. In an enchanting twist, Marcello Mastroianni, donned in the bewitching attire of Mandrake the Magician, floats past a window, beckoning Fellini and his entourage on a journey to the country cottage of the iconic Anita Ekberg. At Ekberg's villa, the crew conjures up the enchanting Trevi fountain scene from "La Dolce Vita" (1960). The image materializes and vanishes on a sheet, as if controlled by an unseen sorcerer, transporting Fellini and his cast back in time to a golden era of cinema. Yet amid this reverie, a shadow looms. Fellini, with prescient clarity, foresees the approaching twilight of the movie industry's golden age, threatened by the relentless march of television. 'Intervista' (1987) is a mesmerizing tapestry of nostalgia and innovation, a tribute to the magic of filmmaking, and a poignant reflection on its impermanence.
