In a future where society is broken up into five factions, teenage Tris Prior finds herself caught amidst a civil war. The Erudite faction sees her and her family as a threat, and a devastating attack on her family home have left her on the run with her closest ally Four. They're being hunted by the ruthless Jeanine who wants to prevent Tris from finding a family secret that could change society forever. Tris and Four have nothing now, but they'll somehow need to find the strength and resources to build allies and push back against the power-hungry Erudites.
