In the heart of the city, Anna Veigh, a newly certified art therapist and teacher, finds herself drowning in the psychological tumult of her inner city special school. When the opportunity to become a governess for two young, wealthy orphans arises, she embraces it as a much-needed escape. Her new sanctuary, Bly House, is an isolated country estate, its beauty concealed within vast grounds and a small, enigmatic resident staff. Her charges, the seemingly sweet yet peculiarly odd siblings Miles and Flora, charm their way into Anna's life. However, the cold and distant estate manager, Miss Grose, sends a chill down Anna's spine. Despite the initial warmth of her new surroundings, Anna soon stumbles upon troubling revelations. Miles, the boy, has been expelled from school for a sin too horrendous to be uttered, and Anna's predecessor, Miss Jessel, met an unsettling end under mysterious circumstances. The tranquility of Bly House shatters completely when Anna starts witnessing sinister figures lurking in the estate grounds, figures unseen by anyone else. Her suspicions lead her to confront Miss Grose, and the truth is more terrifying than she could have imagined - the apparitions she's been seeing are the unmistakable likenesses of two deceased former employees. Anna becomes painfully aware that these spectral intruders harbor malevolent intentions. With the children's psychological well-being, their lives, and their very souls on the line, Anna finds herself in a chilling battle against these malevolent specters.
