Plot

In the frosty, adrenaline-infused world of hockey, Johnny Hansen, a former star player turned humble chicken farmer, decides to lace up his skates once again. Driven by the ambition to expand his modest chicken farm, Johnny returns to the icy battlefield, propelling his underdog team towards the enticing glow of the championship series. However, as the pinnacle of the season looms, the shadows of the underworld stretch over the ice, attempting to ensnare Johnny in a chilling game of corruption. In a sinister twist, he is offered a bribe to sabotage the championship, an offer he valiantly refuses, straining the tension between his rural tranquillity and the menacing specter of the big city gangsters. In an effort to manipulate Johnny, the mobsters introduce a seductive woman into his life, hoping to steer him towards their illicit intentions. The plot thickens when an assassination attempt, meant for Johnny, tragically injures Bobby, the beloved team mascot. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangerous forces at play, adding a new layer of complexity to Johnny's quest for financial stability and professional glory. Idol of the Crowds (1937) is a riveting narrative that explores the collision of ambition, integrity, and the sinister underbelly of the sports world.
