I Am I (2013)

In the poignant narrative of I AM I, we follow Rachael, a young woman grappling with the void of a paternal figure, as she unexpectedly encounters her estranged father, Gene, at her mother's funeral. The reunion takes a strange twist when she realizes that Gene, lost in the maze of his mind, mistakes her for her deceased mother. Gene, now a resident of an assisted living facility, is a prisoner of Korsakov's Syndrome, a severe form of retrograde amnesia that has locked him in time, forever thirty-three in his memories. Rachael, unable to shatter her father's delusion, chooses to play along, stepping into her mother's shoes. As she navigates this unusual path, she finds a peculiar comfort in their "normal" exchanges. Day by day, she breathes life into fragments of her father's past, weaving them into their present connection. What started as a quest for understanding blossoms into something beautifully complicated and unexpectedly joyful. Yet, as Rachael orchestrates this delicate dance of memories for Gene, a deep longing stirs within her.
