In the heart-stopping opening of Hrid Majharey, we're met with an unsettling sight: the disheveled Abhijit (Abir Chatterjee) discovers the lifeless body of his lover, Debjani (Raima Sen). As the story spirals back in time, we're thrust into the tangled web of events that led to such a tragic conclusion.
Abhijit, a respected Mathematics professor at St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, seems to have his life in order. He shares a home with his sister Mallika, a fearless crime journalist. However, a chance encounter with a soothsayer throws his world off balance. The mysterious figure warns Abhijit to shun love, but he dismisses the prophecy without a second thought.
On a fateful rainy night, he crosses paths with the enchanting Debjani, a trainee heart surgeon stranded by her broken-down taxi. Ignoring the soothsayer's warning, he's immediately drawn to her, and their chance meeting quickly blossoms into passionate love. However, their romance is soon rocked by a vindictive student, whose unrequited love for Abhijit leads her to seek revenge.
Hounded by scandal and ostracized from his community, Abhijit and Debjani flee to the Andaman Islands in search of a fresh start. On this remote paradise, they encounter Shubhro (Indrasish Roy), a musician and NGO owner who shares a past with Debjani. As Shubhro's focus on Debjani intensifies, so does Abhijit's jealousy. When Shubhro dies in a sudden accident, Abhijit is plunged into a vortex of confusion and doubt, the soothsayer's prophecy echoing ominously in his mind.
Hrid Majharey is a dramatic exploration of love, destiny, and jealousy, gently laced with the essence of William Shakespeare's works. As the story unravels, we're left to wonder - does Abhijit surrender to his fears and abandon Debjani? And who is responsible for her untimely death? The film builds up to a gripping climax, answering these questions and more, against the backdrop of a rainy evening in the Andaman Islands.
