Plot

In the heart of the city, a museum stands, a testament to the artistry of Professor Henry Jarrod, a master sculptor whose wax creations are eerily lifelike. Jarrod's passion lies in crafting historical figures that tell stories from the past, such as Marie Antoinette and Joan of Arc. His displays are loved by many, yet his business partner, Matthew Burke, sees a more lurid, horrifying potential in the waxworks. Hungry for a return on his investment, Burke proposes a shocking plan to set the museum ablaze for the insurance claim. Jarrod, horrified at the thought of his masterpieces melting away, staunchly refuses. A violent disagreement ensues, culminating in a fire that ravages the museum, seemingly taking Jarrod's life with it. The city mourns the loss of an artist, yet, 18 months later, Jarrod resurfaces, unveiling a new museum. His creations have taken a darker turn, reflecting his own twisted journey, with displays that lean into the macabre. Yet, his most cherished work, Marie Antoinette, remains absent from his collection. When his new assistant introduces him to the stunningly beautiful Sue Allen, Jarrod is struck by inspiration. He sees in her the perfect muse for his missing masterpiece. However, as dead bodies start to disappear from the city morgue, the assistant becomes suspicious. The eccentric professor's methods of creating his wax figures take on a sinister note, especially as he begins to obsessively see Sue as the embodiment of his waxen Marie Antoinette. The assistant must unravel the dark secret of the wax figures before his friend becomes the next exhibit.
