Plot

In the vibrant heart of Paris, American artist Tom Warshaw navigates the rich tapestry of his life, marked by an undercurrent of unresolved turmoil. His French wife, Coralie, and son, Odell, are blissfully unaware of the shadows that lurk behind his affable demeanor. However, as Odell's thirteenth birthday dawns, Tom feels compelled to unravel the intricate threads of his past. It's a journey that harks back to his adolescence in 1973's Greenwich Village, where he was known simply as Tommy. Tommy was a scholarship student at a private Catholic boy's school, where he forged an unlikely bond with Pappass, a mentally challenged janitor with a heart as vast as his intellect was limited. In the face of his mother Katherine's debilitating grief over the loss of his father, and her subsequent dependence on him, Tommy found solace in Pappass's simple wisdom and companionship. The duo embarked on a humbling endeavor as delivery boys for a local butcher shop, with dreams of owning a coveted bike. In an unexpected twist of fate, Tommy discovers an unlikely confidante in a mysterious female convict, known only as Lady. Through the bars of her detention cell, she becomes his guiding star, especially as he navigates the tumultuous waters of his first love for the affluent Melissa Loggia. But beneath the charm of Tommy's youthful adventures, a devastating incident looms. One night, Pappass steals the bike they had been painstakingly saving for, setting off a tragic domino effect. In an attempt to shield his friend, Tommy finds himself expelled, painted as the perpetrator of the crime. This seismic event tears Tommy's world asunder, triggering a flight from his home in Greenwich Village to the welcoming arms of Paris. 'House of D' chronicles this transformative journey, weaving a poignant tale of loss, friendship, and the enduring quest for redemption.
