Plot

On the cusp of Thanksgiving, Claudia Larson, a forty-year-old singleton from Chicago, finds herself grappling with a cascade of unfortunate events - losing her job, a misguided romantic entanglement with her soon-to-be ex-boss, and the revelation that her teenaged daughter, Kitt, plans to celebrate the holiday with her boyfriend rather than at home. With her world already in a spiral, Claudia must brace herself for the impending holiday rendezvous at her overbearing parents' home in Baltimore. The Larson family reunion promises a colorful spectrum of personalities. There's Adele, Claudia's domineering mother, and her eccentric sister Glady, who's a whirlwind of unpredictability. Claudia's sister Joanne, brimming with seriousness, and her equally solemn family, who bear the weight of caring for their aging parents. Then there's the sudden appearance of Claudia's mischievous younger brother Tommy, with his new companion Leo Fish in tow, injecting a dose of unexpected drama into the mix. All the while, Adele nudges Claudia towards Russell Terziak, a melancholic old friend. As the Thanksgiving dinner table is set, Claudia braces for potential disasters and navigates the unforeseen ones that inevitably unfold. Amidst the familial chaos, Claudia's mind swirls with worry about Tommy's relationship with his long-term boyfriend, Jack Gordon, and about Kitt back home. "Home for the Holidays" is a vivid portrayal of a chaotic family reunion, where the tensions simmer just beneath the surface of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, and Claudia must find a way to survive and perhaps rediscover the true essence of family and holiday spirit.
