Plot

In the heart of Victorian London, circa 1880, resides the audacious Dr. Mortimer Granville, a young medical pioneer whose innovative ideas had him ousted from many a hospital. His radical persistence lands him a position with Dr. Dalrymple, a practitioner specializing in the relief of female hysteria. Their unconventional treatment method? Pelvic massages devised to induce orgasm, a peculiar remedy that magnetizes a vast female clientele to the charismatic Dr. Granville. Among the multitude of admirers are the doctor's two daughters, Emily and Charlotte. Emily, the younger, is a studious maiden who quickly finds herself betrothed to Granville, while Charlotte, an outspoken suffragette, manages a sanctuary for underprivileged women in London's East End. As Granville navigates the labyrinth of his heart, he finds himself drawn not to his betrothed, but to the audacious Charlotte. But the doctor's career faces a bumpy road. The relentless demand for his services leads to a carpal injury, resulting in his dismissal. Fortune, however, favors the bold. An ingenious invention by a resourceful friend – a power-operated feather duster, soon to be transformed into a ground-breaking vibrator, promises to revolutionize his practice and amass him a fortune. "Hysteria" (2011) is a vibrant tale of forbidden love, medical revolution, and the pursuit of happiness in an era of strict societal norms. It's a journey that intertwines the lines of professional duty, personal passion, and the power of an unlikely invention.
