Walter Mancini, an egotistical newspaper editor, embarks on a weekend getaway across the sun-drenched expanses of California, in a desperate attempt to mend the shattered remnants of his tempestuous marriage with his caustic wife, Eve. Their journey, meant to be a path to reconciliation, takes an unexpected detour when they offer a ride to a stranded motorist, a seemingly innocuous act that plunges them into a whirlwind of suspense and danger.
