Plot

In the aftermath of his father's premature demise and the forfeiture of his French territories, the youthful Henry VI ascends to the throne, cloaked in the protective shadow of the Duke of Gloucester. He remains blissfully oblivious to the lurking threats of other contenders for his throne: Plantagenet of York and Somerset of Lancaster, whose simmering rivalry ignites the spark for the devastating Wars of the Roses. With a naivety born of innocence, Henry dreams of uniting them, seeking to quench the flames of the Hundred Years' War. This dream leads him to the capture of Joan of Arc, and to a politically strategic marriage with Margaret of Anjou, a union intended to bridge the chasm between England and France. However, the absence of a dowry stirs discontent amongst the court. Margaret, finding her devout husband dull, commences a scandalous liaison with Somerset, while also challenging Gloucester's wife Eleanor. The arrest of Gloucester on dubious charges of treason reveals Henry's inability to shield his protectors or maintain control of his kingdom, as England teeters on the brink of a bloody civil war.
