In the throes of an uncanny medieval era on a distant planet, an emissary from Earth, noble don Rumata of Estor, is dispatched by the Institute of Experimental History. His mission: to secretly liaise with the institute's resident in the brutal city of Arkanar. However, fate deals a cruel hand as the resident tragically succumbs during a failed palace coup, forcing Rumata to assume his role.
