Guns of the Pecos (1937)

In the turbulent era of the 1870s, Texas is a land grappling with lawlessness. The United States Army commissions Major Burton, a stately figure of authority, to establish a ranch in the heart of Texas to breed horses for the cavalry. His endeavors are protected by the newly formed Texas Rangers, a beacon of justice in the chaotic frontier. However, in Pecos City, a different tune plays; Judge Blake, a sinister figure, manipulates his own laws, ensuring everyone is entangled in his cunning web, either as a pawn in his schemes or a victim losing their fortune in his crooked court. As word of Burton's endeavor reaches him, Blake spots an opportunity to expand his empire. He plans to seize Burton's horses and trade them under his name. An unexpected horse stampede leads Burton and his foreman, Bob Jordan, to investigate, unknowingly riding into a trap. Alice, Burton's daughter, follows with a worried heart, only to discover her father's lifeless body, his wallet stolen by one of the rustlers. In this swirling vortex of deceit and crime, enters Steve Ainslee, a cowboy who finds employment among Blake's men. Observing their malevolent operations silently, he is, in reality, a Texas Ranger undercover, sent to probe into Burton's mysterious death. He boldly pilfers a check—the payment for the stolen horses—from the foreman amidst a brawl, suggesting to his partner, Jeff Carter, a daring plan to catch Blake red-handed. Alice and her Aunt Carrie arrive in town seeking justice for Burton's death. Steve, donned in his cowboy facade, shares his suspicions about Blake's involvement in her father's murder. However, a twist of fate lands Steve in Blake's custody when Alice identifies her father's wallet. Eager to expel the threat Steve poses, Blake stirs up a lynch mob. Anticipating this, Jeff aids Steve's jailbreak, leading the mob on a thrilling chase while pilfering vital papers from Blake's safe. As the dust settles, Steve and Jeff meet at the Burton's, but Blake's men are hot on their trail. With time slipping like sand, Steve slips away to gather reinforcements. The Texas Rangers arrive in the nick of time, apprehending Blake and restoring order. The path now clear, Steve prepares to embark on a new journey of love with Alice, leaving behind a tale of justice and courage in the wild west.
