In the heart of New Jersey, Goldie LaFarge (Lili Damita), a vibrant young woman, finds the confines of her hometown too restricting for her soaring dreams. Living with her well-meaning but stern aunt's family since her mother's untimely demise in Paris, Goldie has always been the misfit, the misunderstood 'hussy', yearning for something more. Compelled by her desire to escape, she bids goodbye to her sweetheart, Bill Tobin (Charles Morton), and sets her sights on the glittering allure of Hollywood. Her journey westward is far from smooth sailing. She becomes entangled in a cunning scheme orchestrated by the charismatic con-man, Sam Muldoon (Sam Hardy), who runs a traveling beauty contest.
