From Here to Eternity (1953)

In the year 1941, just before the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor, the US Army Schofield Barracks in Oahu is a tempest of personal conflicts and ambitions. Pvt. Robert E. Lee Prewitt, a talented bugler and former boxing champion, voluntarily demotes himself to join this infantry unit. Prewitt's refusal to box again, despite his superior skills, stems from a tragic incident in the ring that left his friend permanently injured. However, his new captain, the power-hungry Dana Holmes, eyes Prewitt's boxing prowess as a ticket to his own promotion. Undeterred by Prewitt's resolve, Holmes and his subordinates exert relentless pressure, bordering on intimidation, to force him back into the ring. Amidst this turmoil, Sgt. Milton Warden, Holmes' assistant, embarks on a risky love affair with the captain's deeply dissatisfied wife, Karen. Warden, a man with no particular affection for officers, finds himself entwined in Karen's desperate search for emotional fulfillment. Despite their mutual feelings, their future hangs in the balance, as Karen's desire for Warden to become an officer clashes with his own contentment in his current position.
