Plot

In the heart of rural Oklahoma, steeped in the rich lineage of the Seminole and Creek nations, we find Cufe Smallhill - a name translating to 'rabbit' in his native tongue. He shares a simple existence with his parents, Frankie and Cora, in this land where tradition and modernity collide. Cufe's life has been contained within the comforting yet stifling boundaries of his homeland, an existence marked by inertia more than choice. His sister, Miri, however, escaped the clutches of their rural life long ago, trading it for the allure and pitfalls of Tulsa. There, she succumbs to the relentless temptations of city life, her spirit slowly being eroded. Their parents' marriage, once a tale of love, has crumbled into a mere toleration, a shared emotional dependency their only remaining bond. When Frankie dies under circumstances shrouded in mystery and a burial steeped in subterfuge known only to Cufe, Cora, and their cousin Jim, the equilibrium of their lives is shattered. Cufe, battling insomnia and a gnawing emotional void left by his father's absence, accepts a casual offer to visit Miri in Tulsa. In the bustling city, Cufe finds himself drawn to Miri's neighbor, Francie. Their conversations become a solace, a catalyst for introspection and a chance to navigate the labyrinth of his emotions. Meanwhile, Miri grapples with her own demons - excessive drinking, casual relationships and a dangerous game of thievery from her boss. Her strained relationship with Cora adds another layer to her tumultuous existence. As Cufe and Miri navigate the complex maze of their lives, they are faced with the daunting task of rediscovering themselves and finding a way to stitch their fractured family back together. Amidst the chaos and turmoil, the question lingers - can something great emerge from the depths of despair? Their journey is a testament to the indomitable spirit of humanity, the power of love, and the enduring strength of family ties.
