Lonnie Cabot, a luckless janitor in a bustling night-club, is a solitary figure, save for his budding friendship with Brian Bekker, a volatile manic depressive smitten with the club's dancer, Sonja. Lonnie's mundane existence takes an unexpected turn when he stumbles upon a concealed box within the club's restroom, housing an expensive watch and a stash of cash. Persuaded by Brian to wager the newfound fortune on a horse race, Lonnie unknowingly plunges into a perilous world of greed and deceit. Unbeknownst to him, his austere Russian employer has been smuggling diamonds covertly within the box's walls and is frantically hunting for his missing treasure. Simultaneously, Jackie Jardine, the formidable local gang lord, seeks vengeance for his son's murder, erroneously pinpointing Lonnie as the perpetrator. When retrieving the gambled money from the bookies becomes impossible, Lonnie and Brian resort to stealing a reputedly lucky fish, hoping it will help them repay their escalating debt to the Russian mob. Thus, the duo find themselves precariously trying to navigate through a labyrinth of danger and duplicity.
