District 9 (2009)

A gigantic alien spacecraft appears suddenly over Johannesburg, South Africa. Onboard are more than one million “slave alien” refugees seeking asylum on Earth. The government grants asylum and the aliens create a large shantytown slum outside the city. Twenty years later the situation grows intolerable so the government contracts with a weapons company to relocate the insectoid-like “Prawns” to a more remote location. The quirky but highly motivated Wikus van der Merwe is put in charge of the project. However, in the course of his duties, Wikus gets infected with an alien spray that sets extremely weird events in motion.
