Plot

In the pulsating heart of Berlin, 1931, the city throbs with a life all its own, a blend of sublets and sin, where artist studios masquerade as brothels and Nazis throw insults like confetti in the streets. Amidst this tumultuous landscape, the burgeoning Babelsberg studio dreams of birthing "psychological cinema", casting a surreal shadow over the city's roaring reality. In this tempest of change, we find the enigmatic Dr. Jakob Fabian. By day, he crafts compelling advertisements with a doctorate in German studies under his belt. Yet, as the sun falls, he plunges into the city's underbelly alongside his companion, Stephan Labude. Stephan, a zealous advocate of communism and sex, confesses his failures in both life and career. In stark contrast, Fabian maintains a sober distance, waiting, almost ironically, for the "victory of decency." Fabian's existence, teetering on the verge of desolation, is illuminated by a single ray of hope - Cornelia. She's an actress, her star on the rise, her dreams just beginning to take flight. As Fabian falls in love with her, he questions his fatalistic approach to life. But as Cornelia's world begins to glitter with promise, Fabian's future seems to fade into the background. In a world that's corroding and fermenting at its core, can love survive, or will it too, go to the dogs? The city of Berlin holds its breath, its streets whispering their tales into the crisp night air.
