Plot

In the gritty heart of inner-city Erskineville, Barky, a wandering spirit of 25, emerges from the shadowy Australian cane fields. Two years ago, he chose the path of exile, turning his back on everything that mattered to him to escape the clutches of his abusive, alcoholic father. His brother Wace, his beloved Lanny, and the life he knew, all left in the wake of his desperate escape. With the death of his tyrannical father, Barky believes it's finally safe to return to his roots. However, he quickly realizes that the journey home is laden with obstacles far more challenging than he imagined. The bitter resentment of Wace, who chose to bear the brunt of their father's wrath alone, hangs heavy in the air. His brother's accusations of abandonment echo their mother's departure, casting a long shadow over their fragile bond. Meanwhile, Lanny, the woman whose heart he left behind without a word of explanation, stands on the precipice of forgiveness and anger. Can she find it in herself to welcome Barky back into her life after such a long absence? And, confronted by the wreckage of his past and the uncertainty of his future, will Barky once again choose the path of the solitary wanderer? In the dimly lit recesses of the King's Hotel, fuelled by a volatile mix of beer, anger, and unresolved pain, the two brothers grapple with their shared past and uncertain future. As they try to piece together the puzzle of their lives in the aftermath of their father's death, they find themselves navigating an emotional minefield that threatens to shatter their already fragile relationship.
