Plot

When prominent chef, Clay Maguire, is stripped of his restaurant, he finds himself on an unexpected journey, starting from scratch in the peculiar universe of the jobless in America. Approaching forty and devoid of corporate savvy, he's flung into the whirlwind of bizarre interviews and the daunting world of entry-level jobs. Along his path, Clay encounters fellow job-seekers: Liz, whose youthful years spent in the Peace Corps digging wells in Bangladesh seem irrelevant in the corporate landscape; Bob, the manufacturing engineer whose dreams were shattered when his company collapsed, leaving him jobless and pensionless at 64; and Charlie, a disillusioned corporate hiring manager who sees his role as a form of punishment, hiring only those he detests. Guided by his job counselor Sam, who offers little more than discouragement, and the paradoxical advice from Nick, his homeless friend, Clay trudges through a series of surrealistic job interviews. Together with his comrades in unemployment, they strive to reclaim their dignity, aim for success, and, if all else fails, settle for a minimum-wage job fielding calls from prison inmates. Entry Level is a hilarious yet poignant exploration of the job hunting process, the courage required to rebuild from scratch, and the comedic frustrations of starting at the bottom in the modern world.
