Peering through the eyes of Serra, a scholarly soul from Palermo who forsakes his university life to step into the brutal theatre of war in 1942, El Alamein paints a vivid portrait of the struggle that unfolds in the arid heart of Africa. Placed within the ranks of the Pavia Division in Egypt's southern line, Serra finds himself amid a stalemate, with Rommel's Axis forces rooted in an immovable quagmire as October ushers in a looming British offensive.
The initial days are a searing cauldron of monotony, blistering heat, gnawing hunger, and parching thirst, relentlessly tormenting the Italian soldiers. But these hardships pale into insignificance when the British forces launch their relentless attack, transforming the battlefield into a chilling tableau where death holds no glory, luck is a fleeting mirage, and heroism is a hollow echo.
As the Italian defense crumbles, retreat descends into a chaotic scramble.
