Steeped in the tumultuous times of slavery, Drum tells a tale of resilience and rebellion. Born to Marianna, a white prostitute, Drum grows up under the care of both his mother and her lesbian partner, Rachel. Their diverse household fuels his spirit, shaping him into a fierce fighter, often compelled to engage in bare-knuckle brawls with fellow slaves for the amusement of the elite - among them, Bernard, a Frenchman with his own unsolicited desires for Drum.
His life takes a sharp turn when he and his companion, Blaise, are sold to the affluent plantation owner, Hammond. The new environment brings a myriad of challenges, including navigating the treacherous waters of desire and deceit that surround Hammond's personal bedwench, Regine, and his envious fiancée, Augusta. Drum's own life is further complicated when Hammond's daughter, Sophie, fancies him, a desire that Drum must refuse for fear of retribution.
A web of lies spins out of control when, following Blaise's rejection of Sophie's advances, she accuses him of rape. The repercussions are dire, culminating in a dinner party where Blaise's castration is casually contemplated. Amidst the cruel laughter and wine-soaked merriment, Drum and the other slaves ignite a fiery uprising against their oppressors.
The rebellion turns bloody, with Bernard fatally wounding Blaise, and Drum retaliating in a gruesome display of vengeance. As the plantation transforms into a battleground, Drum unexpectedly finds himself saving the lives of Hammond and Augusta.
