Driftwood (1947)

In the heart of a small town, a spirited six-year-old girl named Jenny finds herself in the unexpected role of hero when she rescues a collie dog, the solitary survivor of a tragic plane crash. The dog's collar holds a surprising secret - it's destined for a medical lab to assist in creating a vaccine for the deadly spotted fever. This discovery leads Jenny into the life of Dr. Steven Webster, a dedicated physician who warmly welcomes both the girl and the dog into his life, much to the chagrin of his less-than-thrilled fiancée, Susan. Dr. Webster harbors a dream - to establish a hospital for the town. However, his noble intentions are thwarted by the town's obstinate mayor. Amidst the ensuing clashes, disaster strikes. Webster's lab is devastated, and worse, ticks carrying the lethal spotted fever are unleashed. Fear grips the town, and a desperate race for vaccination ensues. Meanwhile, Jenny, the town's youngest hero, falls ill, teetering on the brink of death. The movie paints a vivid tale of courage, compassion and a community's struggle against a deadly disease.
