Plot

Stephen Grace, a reticent cinema student, finds camaraderie in the enigmatic Quaid, a fellow student tormented since childhood by nightmarish visions of his parents' death. Both bound by their individual past traumas, Quaid's of haunting dreams and Stephen's of a fatal car accident that claimed his brother, they discover a shared interest in exploring the human psyche's reaction to fear. In their quest to comprehend the dread that fear evokes, they embark on a daring project - a video thesis that delves into people's deepest fears. For this venture, they enlist Cheryl, a close friend, and Abby, a library colleague with her insecurities about her appearance. As their research intensifies, they interview various individuals, each revealing their personal horrors and anxieties, thus weaving a compelling narrative for Stephen's college thesis. However, the project takes a menacing turn when Quaid's obsession escalates into a dangerous game. He begins exploiting their interviewees' fears, manipulating them to the brink of desperation, and even turning on his own companions. His actions culminate in a violent outburst, resulting in the destruction of their hard-earned work. "Dread" is a chilling exploration of fear and its debilitating effects, where the pursuit of understanding morphs into a sinister nightmare. It's a journey that forces Stephen to reassess his relationships, his project, and the dark undercurrents that lie beneath the surface of human fear.
