Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome (1947)

In a clandestine corner of the city, lives a discredited doctor, L. E. Thal (Edward Ashley), who stumbles upon a potent gas with sinister potential. This gas finds its way into the hands of the ominous ex-convict known as 'Gruesome' (Boris Karloff) and his piano-playing accomplice, Melody (Tony Barrett). In a fateful encounter at Thal's laboratory, Gruesome inhales the gas and plunges into a death-like stupor. Deceived by his motionless state, the authorities, led by the dependable officer Pat Patton (Lyle Latell), transport him to the morgue, only for Gruesome to shatter their complacency by stirring back to life and making a daring escape. This baffling event stirs the curiosity of the astute police detective, Dick Tracy (Ralph Byrd).
