Dead in the Water (2002)

In the vibrant heart of Rio de Janeiro, Gloria, a young woman fueled by ambition, is confronted with her father's bankruptcy. In an attempt to salvage their financial standing, her father implores her to entertain Marcos, the son of a potential benefactor and business associate. Gloria, along with her boyfriend Danny and their mutual friend Jeff, embark on a boating trip with Marcos aboard their vessel, Boa Vida, to the picturesque Angra dos Reis. Amid the intoxicating blend of Caipirinha and beer, Gloria's flirtatious nature emerges as she playfully toys with Marcos, a wealthy yet non-swimming rich kid, weakened by a childhood ailment. Her tantalizing dance between Jeff and Marcos sparks jealousy within Danny, leading him to cast Marcos overboard with a lifebuoy, and steer the boat towards a remote island as a playful yet dangerous prank. Upon their return, the spot is devoid of Marcos, his absence transforming the carefree sea voyage into a nightmarish scenario. The strong currents whisper tales of Marcos's possible drowning, leaving the trio in a state of panic. As they grapple with the reality of their actions, they scramble to devise alibis and contemplate their next move. In the midst of high tension and heightened selfishness, their relationships begin to fracture, alliances shift, and clandestine plots hatch under the weight of their guilt. The once serene sea now carries an ominous vibe, as the trio finds themselves ensnared in their own web of deceit, with the specter of Marcos's fate looming large and Davy Jones's locker beckoning ominously.
