Dead Birds (2004)

Amidst the tumultuous backdrop of Civil War-era Alabama, a band of renegade outlaws led by the resolute William, seeks refuge at a forsaken plantation, a grim monument to a fallen Confederate soldier. After successfully pilfering a bank teeming with Confederate gold, the motley crew, comprised of Sam, Todd, Annabelle, Clyde, and Joseph, plans to elude their pursuers and flee to the sanctuary of Mexico. Their escape, however, is stymied by the swift descent of night and a relentless thunderstorm, compelling them to hunker down within the eerie confines of the abandoned estate. As the storm rages outside, a tempest of another kind begins to brew within the shadowy walls of the plantation. The night's gloomy shroud is gradually pulled back to reveal chilling visions of the plantation's tormented past, each outlaw haunted by the atrocities committed within its forsaken rooms. A chilling sense of dread permeates the air as they are plunged into a horrifying rollercoaster of supernatural events, their encounter with the spectral dwellers of the house triggering a terrifying test of their sanity. The once united band of criminals now find themselves pitted against a formidable enemy, and, as the spectral assaults escalate, they turn on each other. As dawn approaches, they must confront the demons within the house and within themselves, their survival hanging in the balance. Each step within the haunted plantation propels them deeper into a maelstrom of supernatural terror, where the line between reality and nightmare blurs, and the specter of their own mortality looms ominously large.
