Plot

In the somber dawn of March 15, 1939, the ominous shadow of Germany falls upon Czechoslovakia. Amidst this chaos, Czech and Slovak pilots find solace in the distant land of England, becoming valiant members of the RAF. However, the end of the war brings no respite as they're thrust into labor camps back home, their anti-Communist ideologies viewed with suspicion. Dark Blue World masterfully weaves between these two contrasting timelines - the tense camaraderie of a war-torn England and the chilling desolation of a post-war labor camp. At the heart of this tale is Franta, a man held captive in his homeland, and his memories of the war where he served as a mentor to Karel, a pilot still wet behind the ears. Their bond of brotherhood is tested when Karel's plane crash lands near the secluded residence of Susan, a British woman longing for her MIA husband. A fleeting night of passion convinces Karel that he's found his soulmate in Susan, yet the situation is muddied by Susan's growing affection for Franta. The film explores this intricate triangle of innocence, desire, friendship, and the relentless pressure of warfare. When the smoke of war dissipates, what remains of these entwined lives? Dark Blue World offers a poignant look at the scars of war, both visible and hidden, and the enduring power of human connection.
