Plot

Rising through the ranks of the US Navy, Commander Miles Sheffield finds himself under the watchful eyes of Admiral Eugene Justice, becoming the subject of covert envy from those beneath him, including his Executive Officer and Chief. Thrust into his inaugural command mission aboard the nuclear submarine, the Lansing, Sheffield is soon tested by unexpected threats. A malfunctioning Korean nuclear missile detonates, causing a catastrophic explosion that cripples Sheffield's communication equipment. Isolated and fearing a nuclear war with an unidentified enemy, he finds himself at odds with his own crew. His hesitance to man battle stations is mistaken for war time desertion, instigating an insidious mutiny led by his rivals. Part of the mutiny's scheme involves the ship's doctor withholding vital iodine shots, leaving Sheffield weakened and unable to retaliate when the Executive Officer attempts to seize control. His loyal crew members are now in a race against time to regain command of the submarine. To further complicate matters, even Admiral Justice is forced to consider drastic measures. He orders the nearby submarine, Mako, to hunt down the Lansing. The aim is to neutralize them before their perceived rebellion can inadvertently ignite the tinderbox of World War III. The tension builds as loyalties and survival instincts are tested in the claustrophobic confines of the submarine, making Danger Beneath the Sea a riveting exploration of authority, conspiracy, and the blurry lines between duty and desperation.
