Daddy and Them (2001)

In the heart of a small town, we meet Ruby and Claude Montgomery, a couple ensnared by the ghosts of their past love lives. Claude, once infatuated with Ruby's elder sister Rose, and Ruby, with a history of muscular ex-lovers, are now drawn into a vortex of insecurity and jealousy. Their lives are further complicated when Claude's Uncle Hazel gets entangled in a murder case, prompting the couple to embark on a journey to Arkansas with Rose and Jewel, to express their condolences to the beleaguered Montgomery clan. The journey to the heartland of the Montgomery family is not without its share of turbulence. Jewel, caught in a whirlpool of memories, constantly brings up Claude's past, much to Ruby's annoyance. As they traverse towards their destination, each mile unraveled deepens the chasm of misunderstanding and resentment among them. Upon arrival, they find themselves in the midst of a disoriented, middle-class family, grappling with their own woes and largely disconnected from one another. The story of Daddy and Them unfolds amidst this backdrop, painting a vivid picture of a family's struggle to maintain balance amidst chaos and uncertainty.
