Plot

In the frosty grip of 1975's winter, we're transported back in time by the off-screen narration of Mort Golden, a 21-year-old teetering on the edge of adulthood. His companions on this frigid journey are his two friends, Tim and Danny - all three caught in the stagnant whirlpool of life, with Detroit's skyline as their backdrop. Mort dreams of weaving tales as a writer, much against the wishes of his mother who urges him to pursue college. His comrades, Tim and Danny, seem equally lost, their futures as bleak as the winter snow. Their misadventures lead them across the bridge from Detroit into the cold heart of Canada, in a dilapidated Buick they fondly name 'the war wagon'. A risky venture of smuggling drugs across the border sparkles in their minds as a quick ticket to fortune. Love also tugs at Mort's heartstrings, a lingering affection for a girl he briefly dated years ago adding to his emotional turmoil. With the daunting border inspectors, Tim's explosive temper, and Danny's suppressed emotions brewing a perfect storm, one can't help but wonder, is there a path to a happy ending? The narrative delicately balances the scales of hope and despair, making 'Crossing the Bridge' a poignant exploration of youthful escapades and the pursuit of dreams.
