Plot

In the bustling heart of New York City, Isabelle (Amy Irving), a spirited and individualistic woman, finds herself engrossed in the world of literature at the bookstore where she works. Her life is an intricate tapestry of intellectual exchanges with friends and frequent visits to her affectionate Jewish grandmother (Reizl Bozyk), fondly referred to as 'bubbie'. Although content with her life, Isabelle's bubbie laments her granddaughter's single status and takes matters into her own hands. She engages a traditional Jewish matchmaker, hoping to ignite the flames of romance in Isabelle's life. Enter Sam Posner (Peter Riegert), a humble pickle vendor. He is immediately smitten by Isabelle, but she remains indifferent, her heart pining for the charismatic writer, Anton Maes (Jeroen Krabbé), who frequents her bookstore for readings. Initially dismissive of Sam's advances when they first meet at her grandmother's apartment, Isabelle's resistance begins to waver as Sam's persistent charm slowly wins her over. Torn between her growing affection for Sam and her magnetic attraction towards Anton, Isabelle devises a plan. She sets Sam up with her best friend, Ricky, hoping to keep him close while she pursues Anton. However, as she delves deeper into her feelings and uncovers the true nature of the men in her life, she finds herself spending more time with Sam. The tale of Crossing Delancey is a captivating exploration of the heart's journey, the complexities of love, and the power of enduring bonds.
