In the heart of a bustling city, two men grapple with the moral complexities of marital infidelity and the crumbling foundations of their marriages. Judah Rosenthal, a revered ophthalmologist and respected community pillar, is ensnared in a web of deceit and desperation. His mistress, the former flight attendant Dolores Paley, threatens to expose their two-year affair unless Judah leaves his wife of 25 years, Miriam. As the pressure mounts, Judah is forced to contemplate an unthinkable solution proposed by his morally dubious brother, Jack - to have Dolores eliminated.
In parallel, the world of Clifford Stern, a struggling documentary filmmaker, is in turmoil. Pressured by his wife, Wendy, and desperately needing funding for his passion project, Clifford grudgingly accepts an offer to create a documentary about Wendy's brother, Lester - a successful, yet insufferably egotistical television producer. The task is made more bearable when he meets Halley Reed, an associate producer, and a breath of fresh air in the stifling world of television. Drawn to her, Clifford contemplates straying from his stagnant marriage, spurred on by the fact that Halley previously rejected Lester's overtures.
