Plot

In the bustling labyrinth of the big city, Cosmo Jones, an ambitious detective trained through correspondence school, arrives from his humble hometown, eager to lend his unique skills to the local police. An unexpected twist of fate leads him to the chilling scene of a gangster's death, the victim of a rival gang's menace. Caught in this dangerous web is the glamorous socialite, Phyllis Blake, who is romantically entangled with Tom, a member of the murderous gang. Their rivals, fuelled by nefarious intentions, plot to kidnap her. The plot thickens in front of a glitzy nightclub, where Cosmo, alongside Sergeant Flanagan, witness the attempted kidnapping, which spirals into a violent gunfight, leaving an innocent bystander gravely injured. In the aftermath, Police Chief Murphy holds Flanagan responsible for the bloody spectacle and demotes him, igniting Cosmo's determination to solve the case. Teaming up with Eustace, a resourceful porter, and Susan, Flanagan's devoted fiancée, Cosmo embarks on a quest for justice. When Phyllis inevitably falls victim to a kidnapping, Cosmo theorizes that the act was masterminded by one of the two rival gangs. With the help of her father, they craft a clever ruse, placing an ad in the newspaper claiming contact with the kidnappers. This sparks a deadly misunderstanding, as each gang suspects the other of betrayal, leading to a catastrophic showdown that would wipe out one gang, forever altering the city's criminal landscape.
