Plot

As the searing sun beats down on the relentless Arizona desert, a unique tale of rebellion and brotherhood unfolds. Independent trucker Martin Penwald, known across the airwaves as "Rubber Duck," navigates through the dusty landscape, accompanied by his fellow road warriors, "Pig Pen" and "Spider Mike." Their journey takes a turn for the worse as they cross paths with the unscrupulous Sheriff Lyle "Cottonmouth" Wallace, a nemesis from Rubber Duck's past who exploits the truckers' lifeline - the citizens' band (CB) radio - ensnaring them in his sordid web of corruption. The tension between Rubber Duck and Cottonmouth intensifies when the sheriff threatens Spider Mike, a family man desperate to reunite with his pregnant wife. In response, Rubber Duck, Pig Pen, "Widow Woman," and a motley crew of truckers, kick up a dust storm, fleeing towards New Mexico to evade their impending doom. Their convoy grows in size as the news of their rebellion ripples through the CB airwaves, amassing a wave of support from fellow truckers. Unexpectedly, the convoy gains a passenger in Melissa, a photographer captivated by the truckers' plight, who initially only sought a lift to the airport but soon finds herself part of something much larger. Meanwhile, Cottonmouth rallies law enforcement officers across the southwest, only to realize that capturing the charismatic Rubber Duck is not as simple as cornering him and his rig, especially given the volatile nature of his cargo. As the high-stakes cat and mouse game spirals, New Mexico Governor Jerry Haskins steps into the fray. Sensing an opportunity in the truckers' growing public support, he aims to use the situation to his political advantage. In this vast desert stage, Convoy (1978) paints a compelling portrait of defiance and camaraderie, a high-octane ride where every mile is a fight for freedom.
