Congo (1995)

In the heart of the treacherous Congo jungle, millionaire R.B Travis's son, Charles (Bruce Campbell), and his confidant, Jeffrey Weems (Taylor Nichols), are tragically snuffed out in their quest for an elusive blue diamond. This precious gem, large and pure enough to power laser communication systems, is believed to be hidden within the mysterious ruins of a lost city. When the camera feed abruptly dies, revealing only a terrifying, unidentified creature before its demise, the enigmatic circumstances of their disappearance come to light. In the wake of their sudden loss, R.B Travis (Joe Don Baker) assigns his son's former fiancée and his own employee, the resilient Dr. Karen Ross (Laura Linney), to embark on a perilous journey to unravel the truth. Simultaneously, we meet Dr. Peter Elliot (Dylan Walsh) and his assistant Richard (Grant Heslov), who share their own connection to the Congo. They are engaged in groundbreaking communication experiments with Amy (Misty Rosas), a gorilla longing for her native Congo. Derailed by funding woes, their mission finds an unexpected savior in the eccentric Romanian philanthropist Herkermer Homolka (Tim Curry), who harbors a hidden agenda. As their paths converge in the politically turbulent heartland of Africa, the group is bolstered by the prowess of seasoned guide Captain Munroe Kelly (Ernie Hudson). The Captain navigates the political landscape, securing their passage further into the perilous wild. The group unwittingly becomes entangled in a web of treachery and greed, as the quest for the blue diamond becomes a life-threatening race against time and unknown forces. Inflamed by the allure of wealth, power, and scientific discovery, they soon realize that their greatest desires could lead to their undoing. As they delve deeper into the Congo, they are confronted with the stark reality that the most coveted treasures often harbor the deadliest dangers.
