Plot

In the quaint recesses of a small town in West Bengal, Pranabendu Das, a retired film exhibitor, clings to the fading glory of his once-thriving cinema 'Kamalini'. Named in the haunting memory of his estranged wife, 'Kamalini' is a celluloid shrine that now stands threatened by the relentless march of technology. The advent of the digital age forces Pranabendu to relinquish his beloved theatre, turning it into a relic of a bygone era. Meanwhile, his son Prakash, an opportunist with an unwavering businessman's edge, navigates his path through the same world of cinema, albeit in a way that sharply contrasts his father's ethos. Prakash, unfazed by his father's predicament, sells pirated DVDs of feature films, becoming an unconventional purveyor of cinema in the town. His actions, while spreading the magic of movies among the people, are far from acceptable in the eyes of his father. 'Cinemawala' is a poignant tale of a father-son relationship, woven amidst the mesmerising tapestry of cinema. It delves into the dichotomy between the old and the new, between an unwavering 'Cinemawala' who reveres the art of cinema, and a pragmatic son, who exploits it for his gain. As a war of ideologies ensues, the very essence of what it means to be a true 'Cinemawala' is put into question, along with their allegiance to the art of cinema. This riveting narrative explores the dynamics of change, tradition, and survival, all under the evocative backdrop of a rapidly evolving cinematic landscape.
