Cinema Paradiso (1988)

Internationally acclaimed director Salvatore has returned to his small Sicilian hometown for the funeral of an old friend, but the return sets off a chain of memories that serve as both a memorial to that recently passed friend and of their shared love of cinema. Alfredo was the grumpy operator of the local cinema, but he showed a softer side to the young Salvatore. It's under Alfredo's tutelage that he learned of the world's great directors and actors, and it's in the Cinema Paradiso that he developed his skills as an artist. Salvatore grasps with the attempt to feel those emotions so vividly again.
