On a frosty Christmas Eve in Edmonton, Alberta, the Saunders family finds themselves far from the sun-kissed streets of Los Angeles. Stripped of friends, money, and all but a vestige of Christmas spirit, the family struggles to find joy amidst adversity. The father, Wayne (Patrick Swayze), burdened by a job loss, faces the daunting task of last-minute Christmas shopping for his disheartened children, Danny (Cameron Bright), Brian (Matthew Knight), and the ever-hopeful Mary (Amy and Zoe Schlagel). Meanwhile, their mother, Judy (Rachel Hayward), is trapped in a web of holiday travel chaos, stranded miles away in Los Angeles.
Their gloomy Christmas scenario takes an unexpected turn when Brian and Mary stumble upon a bag bursting with counterfeit cash at the bustling West Edmonton Mall. Unaware of the treacherous origins of the money, the two embark on a Yuletide shopping extravaganza, igniting a spark of holiday cheer. However, this newfound joy is threatened by the nefarious Cardoza brothers, Leo (Chris Kattan) and Sheldon (Preston Lacy), and their alluring leader, Ginger Peachum (Carmen Electra). These clumsy counterfeiters, desperate to retrieve their counterfeit stash, launch a relentless pursuit of Brian and Mary through the mall teeming with unsuspecting shoppers.
Simultaneously, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, led by the quirk-filled Gordon McLoosh (Tim Curry), are hot on the trail of the counterfeit money, further intensifying the holiday chaos. Amidst this whirlwind of events, the enigmatic mall Santa Claus (Matthew Walker) may just hold the key to restoring the Saunders family's faith in the magic of Christmas.
