In the bleak world of 2017, where technology reigns supreme and relationships are reduced to mere commodities, dwells Sam Treadwell, a successful businessman in this cold, mechanized society. His life takes an unexpected turn when his animatronic wife, the programmable perfection that is Cherry 2000, malfunctions. In a desperate bid to restore the synthetic symbol of his affections, Treadwell engages the services of the fierce and captivating renegade tracker, E. Johnson (Melanie Griffith).
