Plot

In the heart of World War II, an eminent scientist with a ground-breaking invention designed to shield Allied ships from U-boat torpedoes secures protection from the Secret Service. Unfathomably, he opts to throw a lavish cocktail party within his Washington mansion's lower quarters, despite his top-secret lab residing just a floor above. Foreign guests with enigmatic histories are among the attendees, and the scientist stubbornly bars his bodyguards, fearing their presence might cause unease. However, the night takes a chilling turn when the scientist is mysteriously killed before he can join the revelry. The ensuing investigation draws in the astute Honolulu detective, Charlie Chan, and his quick-witted children, Tommy and Iris. As the plot thickens, they are joined by Birmingham Brown, the chauffeur of one of the guests. A shocking preliminary autopsy unveils the cause of death as electrocution, leaving Charlie and his team grappling with a web of suspects and red herrings. As the mystery unravels, they must discern the true criminal from among the shadows of deception. The fate of the war hangs in balance as they attempt to bring the perpetrator to justice.
