Plot

Charlie Chan, the renowned detective, is on the brink of his voyage back to Honolulu, bidding farewell to his loyal but now jobless assistant, Birmingham. Birmingham quickly finds new employment as a butler for the enigmatic couple, William and Justine Bonner, notorious for their occult antics disguised as psychic performances within their eerie abode. The plot thickens when Charlie's vivacious daughter, Frances, attends one of the Bonners' mysterious séances, driven by her innocent curiosity. In an unexpected turn of events, the séance culminates in Mr. Bonner's shooting, with the blame hastily pointed towards the unsuspecting Frances. In response to these grave accusations, Charlie delays his departure, diving headfirst into an investigation riddled with unnerving complexities. His challenges amplify when the victim's wound reveals no bullet, and a hypnotized Mrs. Bonner is coerced into leaping from the rooftop of a towering city building, ending her life in a tragic suicide. The unfolding narrative draws us deeper into a web of intrigue and dark magic, where not everything is as it seems.
