Plot

Steeped in a decade of wedding videography, Vic James is a seasoned professional who thrives on transforming even the most chaotic nuptials into an unforgettable cinematic memento. His current assignment, the wedding of Alison Jones and Phil Havemeyer, promises to be his most compelling yet. Alison, the quintessential people pleaser, provides Vic with unrestricted access, while Phil, engrossed in his iPhone, remains blissfully unaware of Vic's omnipresence. However, the night before the wedding sees a sudden twist. Haunted by her parents' failed marriage, Alison suffers an attack of cold feet, fearing an inevitable breakup with Phil down the line. But not wanting to shatter the expectations of her loved ones, she convinces Phil to stage a sham wedding without actually tying the knot, a secret guarded by the unsigned marriage certificate. Vic, who stumbles upon this clandestine plan, seizes the opportunity to pivot his work, aiming to create a profound documentary that exposes the absurdity and drama that weddings incite in otherwise ordinary people. As the faux-wedding unfolds, Vic uncovers a trove of compelling subplots. Alison grapples with her divorced parents and her eccentric Czech stepmother, an "Internet bride" she barely understands. Phil, meanwhile, schemes to win Alison back, enlisting his arrogant boss, Damian Haines, as his new best man and effectively sidelining Chris "Bena" Benaschnaz, his lifelong friend. Simultaneously, Mary Kowalchik, Alison's maid of honor, juggles her official duties with a personal mission of her own - to find someone to share her bed before the night ends. As Vic captures these intertwining narratives, "Breakup at a Wedding" takes viewers on a rollercoaster journey through the labyrinth of love, commitment, and the peculiar madness that weddings tend to invoke.
