Born to Win (1971)

In the pulsating heart of New York City, J.J., a former hairdresser turned petty criminal, dances a dangerous waltz with addiction, aided by his accomplice, Billy Dynamite. Their crimes, often bungled and just as often hilarious, are a desperate attempt to support their towering drug habits. J.J.'s life is further complicated by his role as a mule for the irascible Vivian, known to J.J. as the 'Geek Man.' This underworld kingpin has his talons not only in J.J. but also in Veronica, J.J.'s ex-wife and fellow junkie, drawing her into a life of hustling to feed her own addiction. In a world spinning out of control, two chance encounters offer J.J. a glimmer of redemption. First, he finds himself ensnared by a pair of relentless NYPD narcs, offering him a dubious lifeline in exchange for information that could topple the drug scene. Second, a surprising brush with a young woman named Parm, amidst one of his chaotic crimes, leads to a blossoming romance. This newfound love and support kindle in J.J. a burning desire to break free from the chains of his past and emerge victorious from his life of desolation. As his relationship with Parm deepens, J.J. finds himself poised on the brink of change, wrestling with the monster of addiction and the ghosts of his past while yearning for a brighter future.
