Borderland (1937)

In the rugged expanse of Mexico, a cunning bandit known as "The Fox" stirs the dust, leading the Texas Rangers into a whirlwind of action. Their leader, Rankin, hatches a clever ruse to infiltrate the Fox's den. Texas Ranger "Hopalong" Cassidy, a stalwart pillar of law enforcement, must tarnish his reputation and invite his own expulsion from the Rangers, a plan that shocks and distresses his comrade, Johnny Nelson, kept in the dark about the scheme. As a pariah, Cassidy ventures into El Rio, the pulsating heart of the Fox's operations. He coldly snubs his old friend, "Windy" Halliday, and ingratiates himself among the town's less savory characters, including "Loco," a seemingly simple-minded man. Through an overheard conversation, Loco learns that Cassidy's fall from grace might just be an act, a revelation that threatens to unravel the entire plot. This discovery leads to the abduction of both Windy and young Molly Rand, used as pawns by the Fox to keep Cassidy at bay. Meanwhile, when the Fox eliminates his own gang leader, Cassidy, now known more for his notoriety than his Ranger roots, is pulled into the void. As he navigates this treacherous landscape, Cassidy begins to suspect that the Fox is masquerading as the town's fool, Loco. Yet the Fox, in turn, grows wise to Cassidy's true intentions, using Windy and Molly as bait in a deadly trap. In this thrilling tale of deception and courage, loyalties are tested, identities are concealed, and the line between law and lawlessness blurs. As the stakes rise, Cassidy finds himself caught in a dangerous dance with the Fox, where one misstep could prove fatal.
