In the heartland of rural Ohio, Utah (Jack Kilmer) and Opal (Alice Englert), two junkies ensnared in the throes of addiction, find their lives irreversibly changed by a seemingly random encounter with the mysterious Wood (Michael Kenneth Williams). This encounter propels them to the sun-drenched yet treacherous streets of Los Angeles, into the seemingly nurturing care of a drug treatment center run by the astute Dr. White (Melissa Leo). Here, Utah stumbles into sobriety, guided not only by the center's staff but also by his new love interest, May (Jessica Rothe), a former tech. However, as they navigate the labyrinth of recovery, they soon become entangled in a dangerous web of deceit. The rehabilitation center, they discover, is merely a façade for a predatory, multi-billion-dollar fraud operation that manipulates addicts into recruiting their own kind. Utah, unfortunately, is drawn into this sinister scheme. The charismatic Wood and his partner-in-crime, the drug treatment tycoon Vin (Frank Grillo), take Utah under their sinister wing, exposing him to a life of opulence and peril. Despite his newfound sobriety, Utah's addiction remains his biggest challenge, a haunting specter that threatens to pull him back into the vicious cycle.
